SERVICE DELIVERY MEETING FEEDBACK:
On 1 December, we had our last service delivery meeting for the year. Departments not in attendance where: Human Settlements; Economic Development; Real Estate; EMPD and City Planning.
Feedback from each department as follows:
ENERGY DEPT:
Energy Dept is facing many operational challenges. These being vehicle shortage and staff shortage. Currently there are 13 vacant positions and 4 vacant Senior Supervisor positions. Four cherry pickers were requested of which they received 2 NP200’s. They need to borrow cherry pickers from other department’s which causes delays in attending to calls. The warning theft tender is currently out and will hopefully be finalized in January 2023.
Only 1 contractor was appointed throughout Germiston to attend to streetlights which are being done systematically. A schedule will be drawn up in due course and sent to Councillors to keep track of streetlights.
Vandalism throughout the city is of great concern and is costing the Metro a fortune throughout all departments. Cable theft, Fuses, traffic lights, road markings, rail guards etc are all being stolen and vandalized at an alarming rate. EMPD and SAPS will be enlisted to assist.
Electrical meter readers were trained this week. Residents are please urged to report any form of theft and vandalism to the departments to assist. If energy department attends to your outage and they make a temporary fix in the means of bypassing and promising to come at a later stage to attend, you are please urged to take a photo of the connection as well as the vehicle attending to avoid any possible fines instituted by revenue department.
FLEET
With regard to waste removal trucks, landfill sites are damaging the trucks which causes down time. Trucks can be fixed and put onto the road and within an hour, something else is broken. These trucks are old and need replacing. The Oversight Committee is looking into whether outright purchase or fleet management would be more beneficial and value for money.
Fleet department was requested to compile a comprehensive list of vehicles in maintenance.
FINANCE
The department is aware of the interim billing fiasco and request residents to please continue submitting readings, Actual readings should start reflecting in January and February. If you are still billed and interim amount, please advise Finance department for rectification. Water meter readers have already been deployed throughout the Metro.
WASTE
Germiston Waste Department is still behind on schedule, they are currently servicing Tuesday areas. Today they have 6 trucks. The Department will investigate why residents are being turned away at landfill sites.
ROADS
Yesterday, the Department received their first batch of patching materials and will start soon. Schedule will be sent to Councillors in due course of where and when potholes will be filled.
